Movie review - The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)
Automated copy of my Letterboxd review for The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)

For me this is where Star Wars movies have jumped the shark (dragonsnake). It feels like a kids movie in a way that none of the other Star Wars movies has, and even the show didn't. It's sloppy -- many continuity errors, messy CG, action scenes are even more of a blurry mess, and the music is wildly random. There are no stakes -- it's obvious nobody will die except "main bad guys", faceless stormtroopers, and many droids (droid rights now!).
I liked seeing Zeb, but he wasn't used well. I liked seeing Embo, but his animation was janky especially in fight scenes. I liked the four little mechanic guys, top tier little guys. Grogu is the same as he's always been, because they can't let him progress (like learning to talk) or he won't be as cute anymore.
Finally, there is literally no point when I ever want to see Dave Filoni in his stupid hat acting in a Star Wars movie or show. Writing and directing (2nd unit) and producing this movie wasn't enough, he had to write himself a named character with lines? Fuck off.
