I was interested in the world and where the plot was going in this film, but the characters didn't build in a way I connected with, and it was slow. The technical aspects of the film were generally well done -- interesting shots; lots of practical effects that looked great; fun Toronto locations, particularly lots of the CBC hq building where I used to work; and great Canadian actors, but only in the supporting cast. The slow pace and my lack of engagement made it feel longer than it's 1h43m runtime, and I checked the remaining time repeatedly. A key recurring phrase reminded of The Matrix, and made me wish I was watching it instead.
