Automated copy of my Letterboxd review for Uglies (2024)

A curiosity watch for me. I read the books as an adult, and this adaptation feels true to them: detached from reality and in particular how people behave, hamfisted in the way it approaches social messages, and very appealing to a specific group of young people. I have wondered whether the ideas and approach in the books ultimately helped or hindered that group. The young cast is bad, the older cast are good, and Laverne Cox is awesome.
